Robbo’s bruised but ready for battle

-

JOHN ROBERTSON is confident he still has the Caley Thistle board’s full backing after a “bruising” return to management.

The former Hearts hero caused a stir with post-match comments after last weekend’s away defeat to Dumbarton as he raised the possibility he faces the sacked after poor results.

Chairman Graham Rae responded by praising the energy Robertson had brought to the role while making it clear the axe was not on the agenda.

For Robertson, with one win, one draw and five defeats from the opening seven Championship matches, there is a realism about fans growing impatient.

He said: “The board have been fantastic. We’re singing from the same hymn sheet.

“They’ve told me there’s no issue and I’ve no issue with them. Managers lose jobs on the back of poor results and it can happen to anyone but we’ve got a long-term plan.

“It has been bruising but we knew we’d take a few knocks and we’ll come out fighting. We’ll keep improving and hopefully get to where we want to be.

“It’s always the easy option to sack a manager. We’ve seen it over the past few days – contracts can be terminated immediately.

“If that happened with players there would be a real stooshie.

“We knew there’d be a lot of ups and downs and we’re going through a down. We’re not getting there as quickly as the fans, players and management would want.”

Stephen Dobbie reckons Queens will relish today’s long road trip because the players need bonding time.

He said: “This might be the kind of game we need, just getting away. By going up there the night before we can get a bit of bonding time together. It’s important we stop the rot.”
