Raith are relentless in pursuit of crown
GRAEME SMITH believes Raith Rovers can be standard bearers for the consistency required to claim the League One title.
The Stark’s Park keeper has been part of a defence that has been breached just once in the last five games ahead of today’s clash at Albion Rovers.
Six victories on the bounce have carried the Fifers into a six-point lead at the summit and Smith has promised a relentless approach at Cliftonhill.
He said: “We have set standards and need to stay above them. If we take our foot off the gas or play at 80 per cent we’ll get nowhere as we need to be at 100 per cent every week.
“The biggest factor in our form has been the strength we have in the forward areas and as a keeper I’m delighted to see most of the action at the other end.
“Our clean-sheet record has been decent but more importantly we have been clinical at the other end.”
Rovers have lost all three games at home in the league – winning four on the road – and boss Brian Kerr wants to end their Cliftonhill curse.
He said: “Our pitch isn’t great, there’s no getting away from that, but it’s the same surface for the opposition.
“We have been doing great away from home on better surfaces as we are a side that likes to get the ball down. But doing well at Cliftonhill is the priority.”
