Aguero so ‘lucky‘ it wasn’t worse

SERGIO AGUERO escaped serious injury by seconds after putting on his seatbelt just moments before the taxi in which he was travelling crashed.

Aguero is facing two months out after breaking a rib when his taxi collided with a lamp post in Amsterdam on the way to the airport on Thursday night.

Aguero’s father Leonel del Castillo said: “The taxi was driving very fast. Kun asked him to slow down, put on his seat belt and crashed instantly.

“He was lucky. They put him on painkillers, he was released and was taken to Manchester.”

City’s leading scorer will sit out today’s trip to Chelsea and could miss up to 11 games, including two World Cup qualifiers with Argentina.

Aguero is two goals short of becoming City’s all-time leading goalscorer and returned to Manchester yesterday to be assessed by the club’s medical staff.

He told an Argentine radio station: “The taxi driver did not see the curve and skidded. And when he skidded, we hit the pole.

“I broke my rib, now I’m resting. It hurts me badly. I’ll be discharged in a little while.”

City boss Pep Guardiola said: “Sergio cannot play. After the international break, maybe he’ll be selected for Argentina.

“He’s broken a rib, we don’t know exactly how many days he will be out. He’s okay, that’s the most important thing.”
