Players hold minute’s silence for dad of two as partner pays emotional tribute
cas.org.uk/bureaux A MINUTE’S silence has been held in memory of a much-loved junior football coach who died suddenly.
Bonnyrigg Rose paid tribute to Chris Maltman, 42, at their home clash with Carnoustie Panmure on Saturday.
The Midlothian side won the match 4-0.
Superfit father-of-two Chris is understood to have passed away following a diabetic coma.
The club announced the news on their Bonnyrigg Rose 2008s social media page, prompting dozens of tributes.
The club wrote: “It is with huge regret that we have to announce the sudden passing of Chris Maltman from the 2009s.
“Chris has been part of the academy for the last three years and both his boys are at the academy.
“All coaches at 2008 would like to send their deepest sympathy to Chris’s family, friends and fellow coaches.
“Chris will be a huge loss to the 2009s and an inconsolable loss to the family.”
Football teams from around the country rallied behind the club and sent their condolences to Chris’s friends and family.
Edina Hibs said: “Such sad news. Everyone at Edina Hibs is thinking about the family and the club at this sad time.”
Newtongrange Star Academy wrote: “Very sad news that another local coach has passed away. Condolences to his family and everyone at Bonnyrigg Rose at this very sad time.”
Inverkeithing Hillfield Swifts added: “Sad news. Heartfelt condolences from everyone at IHS.”
Long-term girlfriend Jacqie Bustamante paid tribute to Chris and shared a series of heartbreaking pictures on social media.
Jacqie wrote: “We are working on the arrangements to celebrate the life of Chris.
“We will post later about the plans and how we can all come together to honour the life of an amazing man.
“Thank you so much for the endless love and support from all around the world during this unbelieveable time.”
