Fans Kane Pep after Spaniard’s Spurs jibe

- DARREN LEWIS sport@dailyrecord.co.uk

PEP GUARDIOLA sparked a backlash from Spurs fans after referring to Tottenham as “the Harry Kane team”.

The Manchester City boss made the sly dig as he assessed his title rivals after his side’s win over Chelsea on Saturday.

He said: “We have (Manchester) United and the Harry Kane team who scores every game two or three goals.

“Jose with United will always be tough.”

It was unclear whether Guardiola intended the reference as a compliment or not.

It has been interpreted, however, as a slight on the side that ran Chelsea closest last season.

Spurs fans took to social media to hit back, with @ SpursintheBlood saying: “Guardiola, yet to beat us in the league and spent almost half a billion in transfers, has the nerve to subtly call us a one man team.”

@Janssening added, “So disrespectful”, and @ AdsThompson1983 weighed in with: “Says the geezer that has inherited a world-class team wherever he has been. Found out last year! Money saved him this year so far.”

Kane, the dual Golden Boot winner, hit his fifth and sixth league goals of the season as Spurs crushed Huddersfield 4-0 on the road on Saturday.

In total he has scored 13 goals for club and country this season with seven in his last three.

Fire danger at Dens Park

HEARTS fans could be in hot water after Dens Park toilets were set alight during Saturday’s last-gasp 2-1 defeat by Dundee.

The blaze broke out in the Bob Shankly stand where over 2000 Jambos fans watched the match.

Some Hearts supporters had decided to boycott the weekend fixture in protest at the ticket prices being charged by the hosts.

A source said: “It was like a bonfire but thankfully everything was brought into order.”
