Dear Coleen

-

MY partner and I are 29 and have been together since we were 13.

We have only ever slept with each other, and that is important to him. He often mentions how glad he is that he doesn’t have to worry about exes, STDs etc.

On a night out with the girls a few weeks ago I was raped while walking home. I haven’t told anybody and didn’t report it.

I’m now pregnant and don’t know who the father is.

I’m terrified that my partner will see me differently if he finds out, and I really don’t think he would raise another man’s baby. being raped and be able to voice what happened to you.

You can get confidential advice and support from Rape Crisis at rapecrisis.org.uk, helpline 0808 802 9999.

You could also speak to your doctor and they can do any tests that are needed. I would also recommend counselling.

You shouldn’t have to keep this to yourself – what happened is awful and not your fault, but it seems you’re blaming yourself. And you’re worrying how your boyfriend will take it.

This will test your relationship. He will be upset and angry at the person who did it – but shouldn’t turn those emotions on you.

The only way of knowing it’s not your boyfriend’s child is to do a DNA test. You have to speak to him and deal with it. Rape Crisis can help to guide you. Let me know how you get on.
