DARREN FLETCHER last night admitted his Scotland career may have ended in the most devastating fashion.
The 33-year-old wore the captain’s armband as a draw in Slovenia extinguished our World Cup play-off hopes.
And with the devastation of another failed qualification bid etched on his face the midfielder confessed his time with the squad may be up.
He said: “It’s something I have got to think about now. I have to consider how old I will be by the time the next tournament rolls around.
“There are a lot of younger players coming through and I will have to think about it.
“I’ve had a really good stint so I don’t know. It’s hard to assess things so quickly after a game and a disappointment like that.
“This one hurts because it’s the most recent. In the past there was obvious disappointment but I always felt there was another qualifying tournament around the corner for me.
“I have had my time and that’s football – it doesn’t stop for anyone, it moves on.
“I have given it my all. People will talk about the disappointment of not achieving anything but I know I’ve given it my all and hope people can see that too.”
Despite the despair the Stoke midfielder is adamant our finals drought will soon end with a 24-team Euros on the horizon instead of 16.
