Bayern will do double on Celts

- ALAN MARSHALL

BERTI VOGTS believes Celtic will be on the end of two defeats to Bayern Munich this month.

The former Scotland boss has written off the chances of Brendan Rodgers’s side of getting anything from their upcoming Champions League double header with the German champions.

Vogts said: “I think Celtic have no chance in Munich. This really is a must-win match for Bayern.

“If they can’t win their matches against Celtic they won’t reach the last 16 so I’m afraid it is just too important to them. It is a bad time for Celtic to play Bayern.

“The new coach Jupp Heynckes has come in and I can see Bayern winning both matches because they know if they win both matches they are through to the next round.”

Vogts also reckons Bayern made a mistake sacking Carlo Ancelotti following last month’s 3-0 flop against PSG.

Ancelotti is set for a quickfire return to management in China and Vogts added: “I cannot understand why Bayern got rid of Ancelotti. He has won the European Cup twice and won the league last season.

“And he was right when it came to leaving Franck Ribery and Arjen Robben out of his team – one is 33 and the other is 34.

“There is a big difference between having them playing at home and playing them away at a place like PSG in the Champions League.

“The only problem was you saw players from the French team who were much quicker and stronger than the German team.

“Carlo knew that, he said the time is not right for Ribery and Robben, so we start with young players.

“But they lost 3-0 and now Ancelotti has to go.”
