LEW HAS MOR TO LEARN

-

LEWIS MORGAN has already been linked to the Old Firm and Championship clubs down south.

But the Scotland Under-21 winger is refusing to let the hype go to his head and says he can get even better.

Morgan has been a stand-out for St Mirren this season and his contract is up in the summer. Burton had a bid rejected in the transfer window, with Celtic and Rangers keeping tabs on him.

But ahead of Scotland Under-21s’ Euro 2019 clash with Latvia in Liepaja today, Morgan is fully focused on helping Scot Gemmill’s boys pick up three points.

He’s got plenty of confidence in his own ability but after testing himself against England’s best young players at the Riverside last week, Morgan knows he’s got plenty to work on.

He was picked out for praise by Three Lions gaffer Aidy Boothroyd but Morgan said: “I’ve got good belief in myself. I know I can play against boys of that calibre – and have an impact on games.

“But there’s no point listening to any rumours about me. It’s been done to death

now. I’ll let other people deal with that and just concentrate on my football.

“My head’s screwed on. I’ve got good people around me who will keep me away from all that.

“Sometimes it’s good to know teams are watching you. You can take a bit of confidence from that. But as it stands I’m a St Mirren player and I’m happy there. I just want to keep improving each week.

“I know I’ve still got a good bit to go. Every young player should think like that.

“No one in this Scotland Under-21 team is the finished article. The England game showed me the level I want to get to. There is always room for improvement.”

Finishing behind Group 4 favourites England – ahead of the Dutch and Ukraine – has to be the target for Gemmill’s side in their quest to reach Euro 2019.

A victory in Latvia is imperative if they want a play-off spot and Morgan said: “On our day I believe we’re capable of beating anyone. But we’ll treat Latvia with the same respect we showed England.” GOODBYE CRUEL WORLD... GOODBYE CRUEL WORLD... GOODBYE CRUEL WORLD... GOODBYE
