Currency thief took £140,000

- RON MOORE

A CURRENCY worker cooked the books to pocket £140,000 from a travel agent.

Alicia Moran, 33, embezzled the cash from under bosses’ noses at Thomas Cook travel agents in Braehead, Renfrewshire, in six months.

Paisley Sheriff Court heard the mum of two, employed as a foreign currency sales consultant, stole sterling.

She also lifted tens of thousands of pounds worth of US dollars and Euros, which she then flogged on to other Renfrewshire punters at cheaper rates.

She spent the cash on lavish holidays to New York, Las Vegas and Lapland, as well as clearing all her debts, the debt of her partner and his mother’s.

The court heard Moran milked the cash between February 2, 2015, and August 25, 2015, by making dodgy transactions and manipulated the computer system.

She was caught when a number of till discrepancies were uncovered which led to colleagues checking the computer system.

Moran, of Burns Road, Greenock, pled guilty and will discover her fate on November 9.
