Edinburgh to London in 45mins
SIR Richard Branson has invested in the “world’s most revolutionary train service”, which he claims will take passengers from Scotland to London in 45 minutes.
His Virgin Group have formed a partnership with Los Angeles-based Hyperloop One, who are developing a method of propelling passengers and freight in pods through low-pressure tubes at high speed.
The company will be rebranded Virgin Hyperloop One and Branson will join the board of directors.
They are aiming to have “operational systems” ready by 2021, achieving speeds of up to 670mph.
Branson said: “After visiting Hyperloop One’s test site in Nevada and meeting their leadership team this past summer, I am convinced this groundbreaking technology will change transportation as we know it and dramatically cut journey times.”
The billionaire added: “Virgin Hyperloop will be able to transport people from London to Scotland in 45 minutes.”
Trains from Edinburgh to London currently take four hours and 20 minutes.
