the erect stature of the sexy female head of the family and the footwork in her sensual tango with husband Gomez was dreadful in places.

In contrast, he was a joy. His voice – both singing and speaking – was delicious and his comic timing exceptional.

Then there was Carrie Hope Fletcher as Wednesday. Her voice is extraordinary and her characterisation of the dark teen inspired. Les Dennis has been lauded for his performance as Uncle Fester but, not for the first time this tour, he was taken ill and understudy Scott Paige stepped up, singing in a way Dennis never could.

With plenty of scene changes. the piece had the feel of the original comic strip.
