ROSS DESPAIR AS CITY PAY THE PENALTY

- GLASGOW CITY ..... 4 KAZYGURT .............. 1

LEANNE ROSS missed from the spot to end Glasgow City’s Champions League dream – but insists she couldn’t have hit it any better.

City needed five goals to reach the last 16 after Kazygurt grabbed an early away goal in the second-leg clash at Petershill Park.

And Abbi Grant hit a hat-trick as Scott Booth’s side fought back to lead 4-1 before Katie McCabe was AGG: 4-4, CITY LOSE ON AWAY GOALS brought down in the box – but Ross hit the post with her penalty.

The City skipper said: “I wouldn’t have done anything different. If anything I struck it too well.

“It won’t stop me stepping up to take them. I’m just disappointed.

“We were definitely the best team over the two legs. It was a crazy 15-minutes over there that has put us out. We showed tonight we are a much better side than they are.”

Chinwendu Ihezuo fired past Lee Alexander to put the Kazakh side ahead in the 20th minute.

Grant levelled just before half-time when the ball slipped through keeper Alexandra Grebenyuk’s grasp.

The second half was a different game once Grant had scored her second after 50 minutes, converting Jo Love’s cross at the near post.

Noelle Murray made the Kazygurt keeper pay for failing to gather a free-kick from Ross and Grant shot home from outside the box to complete her treble on the hour.

City boss Booth was ordered out of the technical area as the tension built. But with seven minutes to go Ross couldn’t clinch a five-star finish.
