- MICHAEL PRINGLE reporters@dailyrecord.co.uk

CONJOINED twins were successfully separated after they endured a 15-hour journey on a motorbike through jungle and a 300-mile flight to get to hospital.

The baby girls Anick and Destib were connected at the navel when they born in the Democratic Republic of Congo a week ago.

The babies are expected to make a full recovery. THE tail end of Hurricane Ophelia threatens to bring mayhem to parts of Scotland today and tomorrow.

Although the hurricane is expected to have subsided to tropical storm level after its journey across the Atlantic, it could still bring gusts of up to 80mph as it whips the west coast.

A yellow warning has been put in place for Glasgow and central Scotland, with winds expected to build from late afternoon today an and continue through the night.

The Western Isles are expected to face the worst of it.

The wind is expected to be at its strongest in the west of the country in the early hours of tomorrow. Roads could be scattered with debris and rush-hour commuters could face long hold-ups.

There could also be delays on the trains. Ferry services may be affected and bridge closures could be put in place.

The Met Office warned of the possibility that gusts could bring down power cables, causing blackouts. Mobile phone signals could well be badly affected.

Ophelia will also bring heavy rain to the west of the country, with the risk of localised flooding.

Winds are expected to remain strong in the central belt throughout most of tomorrow into the early evening, when they will subside and the rain will ease.
