Leanne’s spot of bother is now a distant memory

- ANDREW SOUTHWICK

GLASGOW CITY captain Leanne Ross smashed home a penalty in a 4-0 win over Celtic as she put her Champions League nightmare behind her.

On Thursday night the midfielder missed from the spot eight minutes from time as City went out of the Champions League to Kazakhstan’s BIIK Kazygurt on away goals.

However, four minutes into the clash with Celtic Ross had another chance from the same spot she missed from in midweek.

This time she rattled the kick home as City held on to top spot in the Scottish Women’s Premier League.

Noelle Murray, Abbi Grant and Leanne Crichton all scored for Scott Booth’s side.

Chris Roberts signed off as Hibernian head coach with a thumping 7-2 win over Aberdeen.

The Dons, rooted to the foot of the table, made a game of it in the first 45 minutes when they cancelled out Abi Harrison’s second-minute opener.

But Hibs stepped up a gear in the second half. Rachel McLaughlin hit a double, Harrison got her second while Cailin Michie, Lucy Graham and captain Joelle Murray also netted.

Rangers came back from 2-0 down to win 3-2 away to Spartans. Simone McMahon put the hosts ahead after five minutes and Ronaigh Douglas doubled the lead early in the second half.

However, Brogan Hay helped create an opening for Chelsie Watson who pulled one back. And six minutes later the roles were reversed, with Watson’s free-kick falling for Hay to net on her debut.

With 14 minutes left Claire Gemmell floated in the winner.

At the SuperSeal Stadium, Hamilton suffered their third one-goal loss this season to Stirling University, but remain four points clear of Aberdeen in the battle to avoid relegation.
