Harry is told to step it up

HARRY FORRESTER has been told to take his game to another level after he hit the clincherin Wimbledon’s 1-0 win over Northampton.

The Rangers outcast is on a season-long loan at the Dons and the goal was his first in 11 games for the League One side.

Wimbledon boss Neal Ardley said: “Harry is a good player, no one is doubting that. The problem we’ve had with him is trying to get him up to match tempo.

“He is not all of a sudden going to catch fire but we have to try and get him to the level where he can do it week-in, week-out.” JASON HOLT is desperate to make up for the pain of last season’s two semi-final defeats by helping Rangers reach this year’s Betfred Cup Final.

The Light Blues lost to bitter rivals Celtic in both of their last-four clashes at Hampden in the previous campaign and Holt started on each occasion – losing to a late Moussa Dembele goal in the Betfred Cup and 2-0 in the Scottish.

Now the 24-year-old – who returned to the fold in place of the suspended Ryan Jack in Friday’s 3-0 win at St Johnstone – is keen to go one better.

Rangers face Motherwell at the National Stadium on Sunday for a place in the first domestic final of the season.

The Steelmen have been going well lately but Rangers won 2-1 at Fir Park on the opening day this term and Holt insists they are much-improved since then.

The Light Blues haven’t won three games in a row in the seven months since Pedro Caixinha was appointed as manager and Holt wants to put that right this weekend after away league wins over Hamilton and St Johnstone. Asked if success on Sunday would help make up for last season he said: “That would be great as the target over the past couple of seasons has been to get our hands on a piece of silverware.

“We know it will be a difficult game and a great occasion but we are now playing better than when we won on the opening day of the season at Fir Park. We’ve been working hard and aim to show how we have come on as a team in the semi-final.

“We want to get some momentum going because it stands you in good stead if you get that as it will in turn generate a really good vibe about the place.

“We got a really good result on Friday. We knew going to St Johnstone would be a difficult game but we went there with confidence and took the three points. You could see in that game our whole team were working hard for one another. That showed in the goals we scored and in the fact we defended and attacked as a team.”

Caixinha has consistently talked about stopping dressing-room leaks but Holt was more than happy at how the team plugged any holes in their defence to keep Saints out.

It was only their third clean sheet in 13 games this season and the return of experienced Portuguese stopper Bruno Alves helped.

Holt said: “One of the things we spoke about before the game was the importance of keeping a clean sheet.

“We knew if we did that we would have a great chance of taking all three points because we’ve shown in the majority of games we can score

We aim to show how much we’ve come on as a team in this semi-final
