Boss Kerr will make World of difference

- ALAN CAMPBELL sport@dailyrecord.co.uk

ARSENAL ace Emma Mitchell insists Shelley Kerr can take Scotland to a new level when their 2019 World Cup bid gets underway in Minsk tomorrow.

The 25-year-old missed out on the Euros and hasn’t played in any of Scotland’s last 10 games after rupturing her hamstring attempting a backheel in training.

But she’s back now and is tipping her old Gunners boss Kerr to get off to a flier in the double-header against Belarus and Albania.

Mitchell said: “Shelley is the reason I’m at Arsenal.

“I was playing for SGS Essen in Germany at the time. I went across to look at Arsenal’s facilities and speak to Shelley and it was all done quickly.

“When I heard she had been appointed Scotland head coach I was buzzing.

“She wants us to play exciting, attacking football and we definitely have the players who can do that.

“I didn’t go out to watch the Euros in the summer.

“I saw the England game in the living room with my mum and I was just disappointed for the girls.”

The Scots had to borrow training kit from hosts Belarus yesterday after their connecting flight at Frankfurt took off without the squad’s hold luggage.

But Kerr said: “It hasn’t affected our preparation.

“We have the essentials and Belarus kindly helped us out with some kit.”
