WE OWE YOU WIN GAFFER

Cerny wants three points for Archibald after failing him in Partick’s last 2 games

- GORDON PARKS

TOMAS CERNY insists Partick Thistle owe boss Alan Archibald a victory today after letting him down badly.

The Jags finished in the top six last term but sit bottom of the table now without a win in their first nine matches.

Cerny admits the displays in the last two games simply weren’t good enough as they crashed to defeat against Motherwell and Kilmarnock.

So the Czech keeper is desperate to launch a recovery against Dundee today and lift the pressure on Archibald.

Cerny said: “We owe the manager a performance. He’s doing the same good job as always and can only do so much in terms of preparation.

“He can’t step on the pitch and help us there, so it’s up to us to give him a really good performance.

“The dressing room is behind him. I don’t think there is anyone talking about a change of manager. Other clubs have changed theirs already and you don’t really want to get to that point.

“You want to get results and everyone is playing for their own jobs as well. It’s not just the manager’s job, it’s all of ours too.

“Your performances determine what happens with your career so everyone knows what we are playing for.

“We have been in difficult positions before but this does feel – on the back of the last couple of performances – like the most difficult time I’ve had here. We’ve let ourselves down in the last couple of games. “It’s only two matches though. We know we can play much better and that’s what we have to show in the next few games.” Cerny knows the experience of being rock bottom at Christmas last season can be leaned on but he is also aware failure against the Dark Blues and a loss to Hamilton on Tuesday could have dire consequences.

He said: “We have to believe there is enough in this squad to turn it around again but we have to show it on the pitch.

“I think we were four points adrift before Christmas then we were able to win the next two games and everything looked completely different.

“You play for yourself and your future. Everyone needs to do well to give us a chance.”

The patience of the Firhill board isn’t just based on hope but a belief that Archibald can rescue the situation.

Cerny said: “He has done it before. He’s the longest-serving boss in the Premiership and everyone believes it can be turned around. Things change quickly in football. Let’s hope we win on Saturday and things turn around. One result can make a big difference.”
