A-Jay:He should’ve seenred
A-JAY LEITCH-SMITH expected to see Partick goalkeeper Tomas Cerny red-carded for hauling him down in the penalty box during Dundee’s 2-1 defeat at Firhill.
The English striker had put the Dark Blues 1-0 up on Saturday with a diving header for his third goal of the season.
But Leitch-Smith then squandered a golden opportunity from the penalty spot midway through the first half.
Referee Euan Anderson deemed Czech keeper Cerny’s offence only worthy of a yellow card.
Leitch-Smith rammed the resultant kick straight down the middle but watched on in horror as Cerny saved his effort with his legs.
After a rules tweak, keepers now only receive a yellow for conceding a penalty if they have made a genuine attempt to play the ball. But Shrewsbury loanee Leitch-Smith said: “The keeper should have been sent off as I was clean through on goal.
“I was expecting Cerny to go off as I have gone around him and all I have to do is tap the ball it into the net.
“I knocked it to the side of him and he has brought me to the floor. That is a clear goalscoring opportunity.
“Any penalty you have to score but it was a good save by the keeper. I tried to wait for him to move but he left his leg there and it was then cleared away.”
The 27-year-old also incurred the wrath of Neil McCann after he overruled both his boss and regular penalty-taker Sofien Moussa to take the kick.
He said: “The manager mentioned that Moussa should have taken it after the game. But if you win the penalty then you want to take it – don’t you?”
