CHRIS CADDEN walked the walk at Hampden. But he feared he had talked his way out of the Betfred Cup Final.

The Motherwell midfielder was booked for dissent in the semi-final win over Rangers, his second yellow card in the competition after he was cautioned in the quarter-final win over Aberdeen.

Cadden was in a panic at full-time but was then relieved to discover bookings are wiped before the semi-finals.

The 21-year-old said: “The first thing I asked after the game was if I was suspended for the final.

“But they all get wiped apparently before the semis and the only way you can miss the final is if you get a red.

“When I got the yellow card I s*** myself a wee bit. It was a silly booking as well because I was shouting at the referee.

“So there was a bit of relief. I asked Alan Burrows (Well’s CEO), then Carl McHugh, then the physio. And then I asked the gaffer. So I made sure!”

Cadden was a kid on the books when Well last reached a Hampden final, the 2011 Scottish Cup loss to Celtic. And the local lad admitted it’s a dream to be preparing for a trip to the National Stadium as a key man.

Cadden said: “Allan Campbell and I have been there since we were nine. It’s what you dream about.

“I was a just a fan in the crowd for the last final. So it’s brilliant to be going back there as a player.”
