MEET THE RANGERS BEAR..CALLED TIMMY

Police hunt two as teens are targeted Sports Direct’s blunder over name of new teddy toy

A MAN who grabbed a 14-year-old girl on a footpath is being hunted by cops.

He only let the teenager go after she screamed out. A man walking his dog was alerted and stepped in. The attacker then ran off.

The incident happened on a path alongside a railway track in Livingston at about 8.40pm on Monday.

Less than an hour earlier, a 19-year-old girl was followed along the town’s Dechmont Wood path by a man. She ran off and contacted police. SPORTS Direct are launching a new cuddly toy for Rangers fans – called a “Timmy” bear.

A photo of the product on the the firm’s website shows it draped in Gers colours – and also Newcastle United and Portsmouth tops.

Former Rangers shareholder Mike Ashley’s retail giant say the bear, which is priced at £9.99, will be available to buy online on November 25.

Fans on Rangers’ fans forum Follow Follow were quick to share their comments on the blunder of naming it after the offensive word many Light Blues supporters use to describe Celtic followers.

One fan wrote: “It’s clearly a brand name as they do a Newcastle and Pompey one, too. But, seriously, do they think Bears will buy something named Timmy?”

Another added: “A lot of thought went into that.”

One joked: “Perhaps they will change it to Billy the Bear ... or maybe not” One fan accepted it may have been an innocent mistake: “In all fairness this is a marketing faux pas. Some idiot hasn’t thought this through.”

Twitter users were also stunned. Roger McMonagle wrote: “You couldn’t make it up.”

James Doleman said: “I think Mike Ashley is just trolling them now.”
