Murray sharpens up his skills by studying Leicester star Jamie

SIMON MURRAY has revealed watching Jamie Vardy bang in the goals for Leicester inspired the most memorable strike of his career. The Hibs hitman etched his name in derby folklore on Tuesday night as his thirdminut­e thunderbol­t high into the net earned a 1-0 win. Murray spent the run-up to his first Edinburgh fixture studying Vardy’s skills after the Englishman’s 24-goal haul helped lead the Foxes to a historic 2016 Premier League title win. He said: “I was watching a few videos through the week of all the strikers. I watched how you get your head down and lash at it, hitting it as hard as you can and getting it on target.

“My first thought when Brandon played the ball to me was just to get it on target.

“I have a few clips of Jamie Vardy – he puts his head down and hits it. The video analysis guy also said, ‘Just get your head down and hit it’ – and I did that early on in the game.

“Maybe it helped because the goalkeeper­s aren’t fully switched on yet. We haven’t really watched those videos before but when you watch English Premier League players it is good to study what they do – and luckily I watched it this week.

“I will keep watching Vardy now. That was the most memorable goal of my career and I will watch it back a fair few times! It was a good strike.

“It was important to get off to a good start and we couldn’t have hoped for much better than that. I was delighted.

“I couldn’t have hoped for a better derby. I don’t feel like I played unbelievab­ly well, I just got the goal.
