Binos not rocked by cup shock
DAVE MACKAY reckons his Stirling side are back on track after their season threatened to come off the rails following a Scottish Cup shocker.
Albion lost to Lothian Thistle in a 5-3 first-round coupon-buster but responded by hammering Cowdenbeath 3-0 last week to remain top of League Two.
And Binos boss Mackay said: “It was the perfect response we were looking for after the cup game. It was such a poor performance – the kind of result that could have potentially derailed the season.
“It was a big shock to the system so it was important to bounce back with such an emphatic victory.”
Mackay’s men have been League Two hotshots this season and the boss is hoping his side can stay on the goal trail.
He said: “We scored three against them last time and we’re averaging three goals a game in the league so far.
“It would be great to keep those stats up but it’s just as important to keep them out at the other end.
“Stenny are up there and I’d imagine they will be in the mix for the play-offs this season. I’ve watched them a few times and we’ve played them already so we know what we’re up against.
“They’re a solid, wellorganised side who are hard to score against.
“They lost up at Elgin last week but have usually been hard to beat this season.”
Stenny are determined to halt the Binos bandwagon and boss Brown Ferguson said: “Stirling have had a fantastic start with 22 points from the first quarter.
“To be honest, if they replicate that type of form over the course of the season that’s almost untouchable.
“Whether they can maintain that we’ll wait and see. I firmly believe if our performance is good enough we’ve got a strong chance of winning.
“We don’t want to fall too far behind anybody at any point, albeit there’s still an awful lot of football to be played.”
