RIVALS UP THE CREEK

- GARRY OWEN racing@dailyrecord.co.uk

McCABE CREEK (2.40) can leave his rivals washed up in the Greene King Chase at Fakenham.

Caroline Bailey’s gelding has been in reasonable form recently and hammered the useful Pemba at Huntingdon last time.

McCabe Creek remains on a workable mark thanks to regular partner T A McClorey’s 7lb claim and can bag another nice prize from the front.

CABERNET D’ALENE (1.20) can continue Nick Williams’ good run in the opener at Taunton. The five-year-old has a respectable record at the Somerset venue and looked better than ever when bolting up at Newton Abbot.

CHARLIE MON (2.50) can take a trappy novices’ chase for trainer Mike Hammond.

Useful over shorter, the eightyear-old took his form to a whole new level when scoring over 3m2f at Newton Abbot in August and remains unexposed as a stayer.

MONAADHIL (1.30) looks the best bet on a trappy Flat card at Nottingham.

Marcus Tregoning’s gelding was a good second on his handicap debut at Yarmouth and this lightly-raced type is open to plenty of improvement.

■ Former top Northern trainer Mary Reveley has died at the age of 77.

Son Keith announced that the retired handler had suffered a suspected heart attack at her family’s North Yorkshire stables on Monday.

Reveley sent out over 2000 winners from her Saltburn base and enjoyed plenty of big-race glory in both codes with the likes of Mellottie, Cab On Target and Seven Towers.

■ Alan King is sending Yanworth back to Exeter for his second outing over fences.

The star hurdler opened his account as a chaser in good style at the Devon venue last week and his trainer is targeting another novice event there in two weeks.

Rising stayer The Worlds End will be kept over timber for the time being by Tom George. The six-year-old will reappear in the Long Distance Hurdle at Newbury in December although the trainer didn’t rule out switching to novice chasing later in the season.

■ Phillip Hobbs has confirmed exciting novice Gumball will put his unbeaten record on the line in next month’s Triumph Hurdle Trial at Cheltenham.

■ Modus (2-9 fav) got off the mark over fences in satisfactory style at Bangor yesterday.

Paul Nicholls’ useful hurdler cosily beat Midnight Target (25-1) by five lengths.
