DOPEY SPANISH COPS HAVE THE WRONG GUY

Scottish jails will need ‘a lot of work’ Robbie is busted for growing huge weed plants four days after he arrived in resort

THERE is “a lot of work” to do to improve rehabilitation in Scotland’s criminal justice system, a report says.

Chief Inspector of Prisons David Strang called for greater co-ordination between the various agencies involved.

In his annual report, he also raised concerns over the number of prisoners held on remand ahead of court proceedings and the number of women in custody.

And he predicted that a growing number of older prisoners, those serving longer sentences and those convicted of sex offences will continue to put pressure on the size of the prison population for some time. A SCOT has been left destitute in Spain after being falsely accused of running a cannabis farm.

Robbie Miller, 24, was locked up by Spanish police four days after moving into a rented room.

They later released him but took his passport, leaving him penniless and homeless with no way to get home.

Miller flew to Malaga on October 5, planning to enjoy a break then pick up a job as a software engineer in Gibraltar.

He rented a room in a shared flat with a British biker in La Linea de la Concepcion, near Gibraltar, on October 16.

Days later, police raided the property and found six large cannabis plants, weighing 7kg. Robbie was arrested and held for 24 hours before a Spanish court seized his passport and bailed him to appear again later.

Without a passport, he couldn’t book another room and he has been forced to sleep on a beach.

Now he is praying a judge will grant him an early hearing and realise the cannabis plants had nothing to do with him.

Robbie, of Hamilton, said: “I was attracted to Gibraltar because they pay well there for LITTLE Kylie Minogue has never pretended to be a Saint. But then it’s true what they say – it’s Better the Devil You Know. Pictures on Instagram suggested the Aussie singer might have signed for St Mirren. All together now – they should be so lucky, lucky lucky lucky... software developers. I got in touch with a guy on Facebook about renting a room and I agreed to move in on October 16.

“But within a few days, police had come round and discovered the plants, which must have been growing long before I got to Spain.

“I tried to tell them I was innocent but they locked me up for 24 hours then took me to court. The judge wasn’t interested in looking at my evidence and my passport was seized.

“Places insist on a passport so I slept on the beach, which was pretty rough. I don’t know where to turn. I just want to get back to Scotland as soon as possible and put this nightmare behind me.”

Robbie hired lawyer Alvaro Gracia Garcia to represent him.

Garcia said: “He has documents which show he did not arrive in Spain until quite recently and it would appear that he has nothing to do with the cannabis that was found.

“I am trying to secure a copy of my client’s passport from the court but I would hope a judge will listen to his evidence as soon as possible.”
