RIVALS WASHED AWAY

- GARRY OWEN racing@dailyrecord.co.uk

WASHED ASHORE (3.10) can land the odds in the gruelling Durham National at Sedgefield.

Jonjo O’Neill’s gelding has made rapid headway over fences and ran a blinder under a welter burden when second to the useful Cuirassier Dempire at Worcester.

The six-year-old remains unexposed over staying trips and can improve past battlehardened rivals.

Richard Fahey’s JUDGE EARLE (1.30) can lay down the law in the novices’ hurdle. The five-year-old was second to the promising Barton Knoll on his timber debut at Wetherby two weeks ago and can go one better on the faster surface.

QUIETLY (2.05) can make a noise in a trappy novices’ chase for Sue Smith.

The gelding has always looked a staying chaser in the making and can open his account over fences at the first opportunity.

BENEFICIAL JOE (2.35) can shrug off a career high mark in the staying handicap hurdle.

Graeme McPherson’s gelding was doing all his best work late when scoring over three miles at Uttoxeter and should relish today’s extra three furlongs.

Olly Murphy’s UNDEFINED BEAUTY (3.40) looks the best bet in the mares’ contest.

The grey has made steady progress since joining her handler and can follow up last week’s easy Southwell win when upped in trip.

And Irish maestro Gordon Elliott can take the lucky last with BOYTONRATH (4.10). The seven-year-old has been in decent form and can build on September’s fair fourth at Gowran on today’s better ground.

At Stratford OLIVER’S HILL (2.45) can complete a hat-trick in the feature handicap chase.

Lawney Hill’s gelding outstayed the talented Marracudja over 2m 2f at Kempton last time and can shrug off a 7lb hike when upped two furlongs.

Course specialist PLAY THE ACE (4.20) will take all the beating in the JH Rowe Chase. Peter Bowen’s gelding caught the eye when third at Wincanton and can regain the winning thread at his favourite venue.

■ Gigginstown will be mobhanded in Saturday’s Ulster Champion Chase.

Michael O’Leary’s team are set to run Outlander, Alpha Des Obeaux, Road To Respect and Sub Lieutenant as they bid for a sixth win in the Down Royal showpiece.

■ Leading fancies American and Total Recall head a 60-strong entry for the Ladbrokes Trophy at Newbury on December 2.
