MURRAY DROPS OUT OF TOP-10 RANKINGS

-

ANDY MURRAY will drop out of the world’s top 10 for the first time in three years when the new rankings are released on Monday.

The Scot hasn’t played since losing his Wimbledon crown in July as he recovers from a hip injury and will lose 2500 points, sending him from his current ranking of No.3 to around 15th.

The last time the 30-year-old was out of the top 10 was in October 2014, when he was fighting for form after having had back surgery the year before.

Rafa Nadal will finish the season as world No.1 after beating South Korea’s Chung Hyeon 7-5 6-3 in the second round of the Paris Masters.

The Spaniard can’t be caught at the top of the ATP rankings and will end the year as top dog for the fourth time, having reigned in 2008, 2010 and 2013.

Nadal, who has come back from a serious knee injury, said: “I’m happy. It has been an amazing year. I didn’t dream about being world No.1 at end of the season.”

Roger Federer’s withdrawal from the tournament to rest ahead of the season-ending ATP Finals in London meant Nadal needed only one win to ensure his great rival could not catch him.

And he avoided any slip-ups against 54th-ranked Chung, although the 21-year-old did cause Nadal problems.

Germany’s Alexander Zverev went out after a 3-6 6-2 6-2 defeat by Holland’s Robin Haase. However, the No.4 seed had already booked his ticket for the ATP Finals.
