City get Serg in goals to reach last 16

CHAMPIONS LEAGUE

- NAPOLI ................ 2 MAN CITY ............ 4

SERGIO AGUERO became Manchester City’s all-time top scorer as they dumped Napoli to reach the knockout stage.

City’s unbeaten start to the season was in danger when Lorenzo Insigne gave the Serie A leaders an early opener.

But goals from centre-backs Nicolas Otamendi and John Stones as well as Aguero – with Napoli scoring yet another penalty – saw City become the first Premier League club to win at the San Paolo stadium.

Napoli dominated the early exchanges and their pressure told after 21 minutes.

Insigne exchanged passes with Dries Mertens before clipping his shot over Ederson. City picked up the tempo and Ilkay Gundogan’s cross was headed home by Otamendi.

Stones headed off the bar before the break but he put City ahead just after the restart with his header again hitting the woodwork only this time the ball bounced over the line.

Napoli came back into it and Insigne hit the bar before Jorginho levelled from the spot after Leroy Sane fouled Raul Albiol in the box.

Aguero put City back in front with his 178th City goal taking him above Eric Brook’s longstanding club record.

And Sterling crashed home a fourth in injury time.

Aguero said: “I am happy for this moment. The team supported me. This is special.”
