Auntie’s night on the Styles

-

HARRY STYLES AT THE BBC BBC1, 8pm

WE’VE had Adele and Michael Buble At The BBC, and the likes of Take That, the Bee Gees and Elton John have all had audiences with ITV. And the next musical megastar getting their own showbiz spectacular? It’s, er, heartthrob Harry Styles. Fair enough, he was in a really huge boyband. And he had a part in a big film. And he’s beautiful.

But he’s also had only one solo single most of us could name and isn’t exactly known for his sparkling repartee.

Maybe the show’s host Nick Grimshaw made a deal with the Beeb – I’ll get you an hour with my best mate to help attract the kids, if you don’t mention my declining Radio 1 listening figures.

Harry’s singing songs from his solo album, while wearing a snazzy floral flared suit, and does a couple of covers including Fleetwood Mac’s The Chain.

The interviews aren’t exactly revealing, especially when you consider the off-the-record conversations and mad nights out these two showbiz pals must have had.

There’s some talk of the crazy One Direction days, and of Harry’s acting debut in Christopher Nolan’s epic war film (it was cold and he had to have his hair cut).

When Adele and Buble did their shows, one of the best bits was the hidden camera sketches when they disguised themselves. Harry’s not doing that. Instead, he and Nick have a game of bingo in an old folks’ home, then go axe throwing and have chips and gravy.

But, fair enough, the lad can sing as he proves with his final number, Sign of the Times.
