Police swoop on school

A 13-YEAR-OLD girl wielding a knife was disarmed by police at a Scots high school.

The girl is believed to have made threats to kill one of her classmates.

And four officers – three men and a woman – were needed to take the weapon from her.

Police rushed to the school in Angus after receiving a call just before 9am on October 19.

Angus Council have refused to say whether the girl, who cannot be named for legal reasons, has been suspended from the school.

A source said: “Police were called just before 9am to disarm the girl, who was wielding a knife.

“She had made threats to kill a fellow third-year pupil.”

A police spokesman said: “Police were called to the school in response to a 13-year-old pupil being in possession of a knife.

“The knife was handed over without incident and the girl is to be reported to the Children’s Reporter for possession of a knife within a school, and for threatening and abusive behaviour.”

Angus Council said: “The matter is the subject of a police report and it would not be appropriate to comment.”

In August last year, a pupil from a different Angus school was excluded after an incident involving a knife.

In 2015, 16-year-old Bailey Gwynne was stabbed to death by another pupil at Cults Academy, Aberdeen.

An inquiry concluded the incident was avoidable and that consideration should be given to changing the law to “improve the resilience of schools”.
