Colin: I’d welcome a return to Central Park

- ALAN MARSHALL

League. I fear for my former club a bit right now because the longer Dundee United stay in the Championship then the harder it will be for them to get promoted.

“It will also become more difficult for them to attract players to play at that level. The Championship is a real grind.

“They are only three points off the top of the table after 11 games but managers don’t get time.

“I know things have not been great but United brought in a whole raft of new players and they need time to gel and settle in.

“Granted, they have not scored a lot of goals but you do feel that guys like Scott McDonald would come good.

“At the start of the season everybody was tipping Dundee United to go up quite comfortably.

“In truth they should be winning that league especially with the squad they have at their disposal.”

It is now more than 30 years since Dundee United starred in Europe under Jim McLean and claimed the scalps of some football’s greatest names. But it ANDY McLAREN pains McLaren to thinkhink it’s now three decades since they have hit such heady heights in European pean competition.

He said: “It saddensns me to think it’s 30 years since Dundee United were achieving their best ever results in Europe when hen they beat Barcelona. a.

“Th r e e years previous to that the t h he club were 90 minutes t es away from reaching n ng the European Cupp Final under Jim McLeann when they lost out to Roma. m ma.

“Dundee Unitedd are a fantastic club andd it iis a great place to play football.ootball. I feel sorry for them justust now.

“It hurts me to seem them in the position they are now.

“I thought Ray was the right manager at the wrong time but ut the club can’t continue ue to say that.

“Hopefully a new manager can comeome in, re-ignite the place and get the team moving inn the right direction.” COLIN CAMERON reckons it would be “crazy” of him not to look to become the new Cowdenbeath boss just because they sacked him three years ago.

The 45-year-old led the club to the Second Division title in 2012 as a player/boss and kept them in the second tier the following season when they finished eighth. But a sluggish start to the 2013/14 campaign led to his dismissal in November.

Cameron, however, who managed Berwick Rangers after leaving Central Park, is now working with Edusport Academy and would be keen to replace Billy Brown in the hotseat.

He said: “Cowdenbeath are a club I enjoyed being at and it is sad to see them at the bottom of League 2 just a couple of years after being in the Championship.

“They gave me a chance in management and even though I feel my time there was cut short there is no point in bearing grudges.

“It is an opportunity to return to management and it would be crazy of me not to look at it. If Cowdenbeath feel I could help I’d have no hesitation speaking to them.”
