deprived of Gary. It is almost as if he never existed. “Is there nobody in the whole of Britain who can stand up and defend the rights of one of its citizens who was brutally battered to death, leaving a son and wife behind who have no financial security?” Gary was found beaten to death in Binotti’s flat on November 5, 2016. The previous night, Gary was at a party with Binotti and the suspect’s Belgian girlfriend Elsy Devolder in the Yangon Uptown Hotel. When they returned to Binotti’s flat, the two men argued. It has been suggested Gary intervened when a violent confrontation broke out between Binotti and Elsy.

The police report says that at about 4am the following morning, Elsy phoned Gary’s wife.

At 6am, Supatchaya rang her husband but Binotti answered. She tried to contact him again at midday but it rang out.

The police report adds: “She kept calling for the whole day but nobody answered.”

Binotti boarded a flight to Thailand at Yangon International Airport that afternoon. It is thought he did not enter Thailand but got a connecting flight to the UK. He was raised in Dumfries by his mother, Helen Stockbridge, 51.

Martin said: “We are astounded the suspected murderer of our beloved brother has still not been in court in either Scotland or Myanmar.

“The Foreign Office say they are doing all they can but there has been little to nothing from them.

“We have been waiting for an explanation now for months. How long was it known that Binotti was in Scotland? Were the authorities aware of this? If so, why did they not inform us?

“We will never stand down and let him get on with his life while my brother’s ashes and memories are all we have.”

Since Gary’s death, his family have suffered from stress and health issues. His mum Gloria, 69, and sisters Rosemary, 52, and Donna, 47, have been in hospital.

Earlier this year, Binotti’s girlfriend was pictured with horrific facial injuries. She claimed she had been assaulted by Binotti. But the pair are thought to be together in Scotland.

Friends said Binotti becomes violent and raging when on drink and drugs.

A spokesman for Police Scotland said: “The Myanmar authorities have the lead in the investigation into the death.

“Police Scotland have no authority to arrest anyone at this stage. Police Scotland will continually monitor any ongoing risk and take all appropriate measures”

A Crown Office spokesman said: “We are aware that the matter is being investigated by the Myanmar authorities and it is for them to comment on any extradition request.”
