I want a stroll instead of a belter insists ace Easton

- MICHAEL GANNON

JASON EASTON loves putting on a show for punters but the Edinburgh ace admits he’d be happy to bring the curtain down early at the Royal Highland Centre next Saturday.

The super lightweight star has been involved in a couple of wars this year after his thrilling wins against Steve Jamoye and Zoltan Szabo.

Easton defends his IBO intercontinental belt against Josef Zahradnik on the undercard of Josh Taylor’s showdown with Miguel Vazquez and is hoping for a more straightforward night.

The 26-year-old – unbeaten in 10 bouts – is looking to take care of business against the Czech before targeting the British title in 2018.

Easton said: “I seem to always be involved in exciting fights. I wouldn’t mind being in a slightly less dramatic one for a change!

“I’d take a two-round victory, that’s for sure. The boxing fans loved them but I learned a lot from those fights.

“I managed to win against good fighters but I went back to the gym and went back to basics.

“I can’t afford to allow myself to get hit, especially as I’m moving up in standard. It has been a great year but I’m hoping 2018 is even better.

“I want to be fighting for the British title in the next 12 months. There are some cracking fights out there in this division.”

Easton insists he’s in the best possible shape to take on Zahradnik but won’t take the unbeaten Czech prospect lightly.

He said: “I’ve had some brilliant sparring. I’ve been in with Jeff Saunders and I was working with Anthony Crolla before his fight with Ricky Burns and I’ve already felt the benefits of going into the ring with those guys.

“Zahradnik hasn’t really fought anyone of a high calibre but he looks to be tough. It will be a good test.”

Meanwhile, Scott Allan will be out for revenge against Kash Farooq when the pair square up for the Scottish Bantamweight title at the St Andrews Sporting Club show in Glasgow on November 23.

Farooq came out on top in last year’s clash but Allan is determined to turn the tables and earn a British title shot.

He said: “Last time out, Kash deserved to win although I thought it was a lot closer than how it was scored. Kash will find out what I’m really about – I’m confident.”
