DEATH OF A SALESMAN

Gregor so glad he’s living full-time dream at Saints after flogging insurance with his dad for a living

- GARY RALSTON

GREGOR BUCHANAN has been happy to see the death of his career as a salesman now he’s helping breathe fresh life into St Mirren.

The Buddies stopper reckons his club are standing up to be counted again now they’re flying high at the top.

St Mirren have rediscovered their mojo under Jack Ross after looking like relegation certs in the first half of the last campaign.

And they travel to managerless Dundee United today determined to underline their Championship title credentials.

Buchanan said: “We’re part of a league in which everyone can defeat everyone else but we’re good enough to stay where we are in the table.

“After a difficult few years we’re finding the respect again that St Mirren should be given. The fear factor’s back around the club.

“The fans are responding brilliantly to the start we’ve made. They’re coming out in numbers and we’re all pushing forward together.”

Buchanan, who moved to Paisley from part-time Dumbarton over the summer, was a late starter to the seniors and made his debut for Airdrie aged 22 after several seasons in junior football.

He also had a spell at Dunfermline but worked with his father Gordon over the last couple of years after going part-time with Dumbarton.

He said: “My dad’s regional manager for healthcare and life insurance providers and I worked with him for a couple of years.

“I’m loving the fulltime experience now because I have more time to dedicate to analysis of the opposition as well as my own performance. You’re never too old to learn.”

United’s Willo Flood is urging his team to ignore all the uncertainty over their vacant managerial position.

He said: “We can’t control what’s going on off the field and neither should we be worrying about it.

“We have to just get on with our own jobs and give 100 per cent. The whole club needs to pull together.”
