DJ Reece star turn at Proms
A TEENAGE Scots DJ is set to play to about 5000 people at a world famous music venue.
Fifteen-year-old Reece Robertson will perform a 20-minute solo set, backed by a 60-piece orchestra, at the prestigious Royal Albert Hall in London later this month.
The Paisley youngster got his big break after volunteering to DJ at his local YMCA.
He said: “Volunteering involves going along to events and getting the YMCA brand out there.
“I play at The Big Music Project – I’m a champion for that.
“I’ve been DJ-ing properly for just about three years.”
Reece initially got involved through his brother.
He added: “I got my first set of turntables and I just started from that.
“I play everything – mostly charts stuff, dance, that type of music.”
“It involves a lot of motivation, a lot of travelling and a lot of good contacts.”
Reece uses both vinyl and digital recordings to create his own unique sounds.
He will showcase his skills at the UK Music Youth Proms at the Royal Albert Hall and plans to play David Bowie’s A Space Oddity at the end of his set as homage to the rock star who died in January last year.
Reece said: “I’m pretty nervous, but excited.
“We’ll be rehearsing on the Sunday and the event is following day.
“And because DJs don’t really do stuff like this, it’s something new for me and the other young people to experience.”
Reece’s performance at The Music for Youth Proms will take place next Monday.
