Wes: All our boys are right behind Murty

-

From Back Page chalked up back-to-back wins as interim manager by beating Partick Thistle on Saturday.

And afterwards the Englishman paid tribute to the job academy chief Murty – in his second stint as stand-in boss – has done in steadying the ship after the chaotic reign of Pedro Caixinha was brought to an end by the Ibrox board 12 days ago.

Derek McInnes remains a strong favourite to take over permanently but reports on an English-based website that Gers were in talks with former England boss Steve McClaren are wide of the mark.

Since taking the reins Murty has helped Gers win against Hearts and Thistle. And while Foderingham knows the players will have no say in the decision, the keeper is adamant the squad would have no problem if the Ibrox caretaker lands the job on a permanent basis.

He said: “Graeme did a fantastic job the last time he stepped in and he is continuing that now. The players are enjoying our time under him and we have had a few good results and hopefully we can continue that.

“It is the same players, the same group. He’s just tried to get us all together, get us passing the ball and implementing our ideas. That was evident against Partick.

“Graeme is a really likeable character, that comes across from his interviews as well. The fans have taken to him, the boys have taken to him, so it makes for a very positive environment.

“We are doing well. As footballers we just concentrate on the matches and we are doing well in that regard.

“We’re without a permanent manager at the minute and we are winning matches so that’s the only thing I’m concerned about.

“Graeme’s standing in and has the support of the boys in the dressing room but that decision is not mine to make. But the boys are behind him.”

Foderingham enjoyed the 3-0 win over the Jags and was particularly impressed with the man-of-the-match display of Ross McCrorie.

The teenage defender scored the opening goal and vindicated Murty’s decision to keep him in the team at the expense of Bruno Alves, who was available after suspension but spent the 90 minutes on the bench.

Foderingham added: “We haven’t had many clean sheets this season, that is something we are trying to work on and thankfully we got one on Saturday. We defended well as a team and Ross was brilliant.

“He has been taking everything in his stride, he is a very level-headed young man. He had a fantastic debut and he’s done really well since he has come into the side. I am really chuffed with him.

“You never know with young players but he has all the tools to go all the way. It is down to him to do the rest of it.

“But he is the most level-headed young man you will meet so any praise he gets is due. As footballers you have to have that kind of mentality, one minute you can be doing really well and the next the world is against you.“
