BLAIR ALSTON believes Tommy Wright will stay put to see St Johnstone out of their slump.

The Perth star has no doubts his gaffer will ignore speculation surrounding his name and haul the club out of their nightmare run.

Saints haven’t scored in six games but Wright has vowed the tide will turn.

Dundee United have been linked with the Perth boss and Aberdeen may also be interested if Rangers go hunting their manager Derek McInnes.

Alston said: “The manager will do what he wants to do but ultimately we think he’ll be here.

“He’s been the driving force of this club in the last few years and a massive influence on everyone.

“He’s been great for me. He’s a very good manager and he’s working hard to turn things around.

“This is a well-run club. Everyone says we’ve overachieved in the last few years but we’ve always believed we can finish top six.

“We need to improve from the run we’ve been on but we believe we can do it again this season.

“He’s the manager and he’ll decide what he’s doing. He still seems to be enjoying it here. Training-wise things have been the same and everyone is working hard.

“Plenty of teams would want to be in the position we’re in.”

Celtic handed out a 4-0 beating at the weekend but Alston added: “We need to EMILIO IZAGUIRRE has warned his Honduras team-mates they have to stop his old Celtic pal Tom Rogic if they want to qualify for the World Cup.

Australia travel to face Honduras on Friday in the first leg of a play-off for a place at Russia next year.

Izaguirre left Parkhead after seven trophy-laden years to sign for Saudi Arabian big spenders Al-Fayha in the summer.

And the 31-year-old said: turn it around against the other teams and pick up a few points.

“The team has been through runs like this in the past. Last season it wasn’t as bad as this but we have the experience to get through it.

“We started the season well so we know this run won’t go on forever. We’ll start picking up points again and winning games again.

“Of course it’s poor to have not scored in so many minutes but we know there is enough quality to turn it around.

“We’ve been working on it. We’ve been working on creating and finishing.

“A few weeks ago we didn’t look like scoring but in the last few games we’ve created chances, we just haven’t put them away.

“We just need something to fall for us, maybe even going in off the back of someone, and that will turn it around.

“It’s not long ago we were winning games so we’re sure we’ll get back to that. There’s no reason to panic. There are no nerves, we know the chances will come and we’ll end this run.” “Australia are a team who are very strong and fast.

“Rogic is technically excellent. He is their best player and he is very difficult to stop.

“They play like a European team. It’s going to be very difficult for us but we have experience in qualifying for World Cups.

“With the crowd behind us at home I am confident we can collect a good result and go to Russia.”
