As stargazers

TWO Scots will take centre stage in tonight’s prime-time broadcast of the Pride of Britain Awards.

Professor Lorna Dawson and student Fraser Johnston were honoured at last week’s glitzy event and will be seen collecting their gongs on TV tonight.

Lorna, 59, from Aberdeen, known as “soil sleuth”, helped in the conviction of serial killer and rapist Angus Sinclair.

She runs one of the world’s only laboratories dedicated to forensic soil science and her groundbreaking techniques.

Lorna said: “One thing that drives me on is the desire to get some closure for families who have been affected by serious crime.

“Life’s so precious, and if it’s taken away then I think we should stop at nothing to find justice.”

Fraser was honoured for his work setting up Cycling Without Age to take elderly people from care homes out on trishaw bikes.

Fraser, 20, said: “It really helps to improve their overall quality of life.”

The ceremony was attended by Prince William and more than 100 celebrities, and the award-winning Scots had a ball mixing with the stars.

Hosted by Carol Vorderman, guests included David Beckham, Simon Cowell, Sir Michael Caine, Joanna Lumley, Sir Rod Stewart, Sir Lenny Henry and Jamie Oliver.

Award presenters included Theresa May and Jeremy Corbyn.
