OPEN ALL HOURS

GOLD, 7pm THIS corner shop comedy, conceived by the late great Ronnie Barker back in 1973, is so popular that we are still enjoying it in its incarnation as Still Open All Hours.

But here, we go back to that first series and the comedy is timeless.

In this classic episode, Arkwright (Barker) has a sales drive when he over-orders on apples.

Granville (David Jason) suggests his uncle adopts a personal touch, but Arkwright suspects everyone of shoplifting. MOTHERLAND

BBC2, 10pm WHEN this ran as a pilot last year, we hoped the BBC would give us a whole series – and here it is.

Anyone who has encountered playground politics, hellish school runs and annoying, fairy cake-baking perfect mums will certainly relate.

Revealing the hidden face of motherhood (not the romantic version everyone posts on Facebook), it’s laugh-out-loud funny.

Anna Maxwell Martin is Julia, who is constantly on the verge of disaster as she juggles work and kids. In this episode, she reluctantly invites the entire class to her daughter Ivy’s birthday party – but her Minion cake looks like an angry sweetcorn, Animal Man is racist and poor Ivy starts vomiting. DEATH IN PARADISE

DRAMA, 8pm KRIS Marshall is the bumbling detective Humphrey in this crime drama which is actually quite funny – and set on a glorious sun-drenched Caribbean island.

This time, a local gigolo is murdered during a gathering of the social elite of Saint Marie. Fortunately, despite the gormless look, Humphrey will always have that lightbulb moment and suss it all out right at the last minute. Guest stars include Tristan Gemmill, Adrian Scarborough and Sharon Small. MUM’S THE WORD Anna Maxwell Martin
