A MEMBER of prison staff in Scotland is assaulted by an inmate every two days, figures reveal.

In 2016-17, 190 staff were attacked by prisoners.

Scottish Tory justice spokesman Liam Kerr highlighted the scale of the problem as he prepared to visit Kilmarnock Prison to discuss how staff can reduce the level of assaults.

Kerr said: “It’s shocking that staff are being exposed to this much danger in the course of their working day.”

A spokesman for the Scottish Prison Service said their staff faced difficult circumstances but added: “We work very hard to make prisons as safe an environment as possible.” A PREDATORY sex beast who set a trap for his 14-year-old victim before raping her was locked up for nine years yesterday.

The High Court in Glasgow was told that he has been assessed as a high risk to women.

Passing sentence, Judge Kenneth Maciver told Ciornei: “This was a disgusting and disgraceful sexual assault on a entirely innocent and unsuspecting 14-year-old girl who was out cycling on a quiet summer’s evening last year.

“This appalling attack also has a sinister edge to it. I am clear on the available evidence this was no chance encounter. It was planned and premeditated.

“It can’t be a coincidence that when this girl came out the shop she had a flat tyre. I am clear you deflated the tyre. When she
