I won’t let last-hole slip trip me up

- BERNIE McGUIRE

SCOTT JAMIESON was not about to let a last-hole bogey sour his quest for success ahead of the weekend rounds of the Nedbank Challenge.

The Scot had just parred the 15th to share second place on four under when the threat of lightning saw players called from the course at Sun City in South Africa.

Jamieson was playing alongside Frenchman Victor Dubuisson who had birdied 15 to move three clear of the field at seven under.

The duo returned after more than a two-hour delay to each par 16 and 17.

But both then dropped a shot at the last with Jamieson signing for a disappointing one-over 73 and a share of fourth on 213.

Jamieson said: “It’s not pleasing to bogey the last but overall it was really difficult out there as I had a few three putts on the front nine which was disappointing.

“I was out in one over when it definitely could have been a couple better.

“Everything was difficult, especially putting. You get blown about in the gusts and then yeah, it was solid on the back nine.

“It was exceptionally tough. Not only the wind speed was changing but also the wind direction.

“It’s such a visually intimidating course, you need to be pretty sure where your ball’s going to go. I’m still in a strong position going into the weekend so hopefully more of the same.”

Dubuisson settled for a 70 and a two-shot lead at six under while South African Darren Fichardt (69) and England’s Lee Westwood (70) share second place two shots back.

Richie Ramsay kickstarted his second round in soaring manner, holing out for an eagle three at his opening hole, the parfive 10th and impressing playing partner and double Major winning Martin Kaymer.

But Ramsay gave back both shots gained with a double at the next only to then regain the strokes with back-to-back birdies at his fifth and sixth.

The Edinburgh golfer eagled his 10th to move four under but then proceeded to bogey the 12th and 15th in an eventual two-under 70.

Ramsay heads to the weekend sharing 10th place at one under.

Three fellow Scots are in pursuit – David Drysdale (73) is at one over, Marc Warren (76) at three over and Stephen Gallacher (75) at five over.

Meanwhile, Russell Knox looks to be returning to the form that earned him two PGA Tour titles with a second straight 68 on day two of the Mayakoba Classic in Mexico.

Knox recovered from two penalty drops in a triple bogey seven at the 12th on day one to finish on three-under 68.

His second day’s effort was a mix of five birdies and just two bogeys to be in the clubhouse on six under and sharing eighth place.
