PLUMBER Cameron Menzies is planning to send his darts hero Gary Anderson round the bend.

The 28-year-old from Muirkirk faces a dream date with the two-time world champion at today’s opening matches of the bwin Grand Slam of Darts.

Last weekend Menzies was in Braehead Arena wearing an Anderson replica shirt supporting his idol at the World Series Finals.

Six days later he’s looking to take him down having qualified to face the PDC elite by winning the Scottish Open at the Normandy Hotel in Renfrew in February and rising to No.6 in the BDO rankings.

Menzies said: “I went to Braehead to watch Gary playing Michael van Gerwen and I was wearing a Team Anderson t-shirt so this is going to be surreal.

“I also got Gary and Michael to sign shirts for me at an exhibition last year and they’re both framed above my bed.

“A year ago I watched the Grand Slam in a pub. Now I’m playing Gary on the big stage and I’m having to pinch myself really.

“I’ve never played in front of more than 200 people. It was amazing at Braehead, like a football crowd.

“Every time Gary hit a 180, the place roared like someone had scored a goal. I know it will be like that at the Grand Slam so I can’t wait.

“I’ll just have to go up there and pretend it’s not Gary, just another player and do my own game.

“The Grand Slam is a short format so I have a chance to surprise a few. That’s the aim.

“It’s a huge chance for me to change my life forever because if I can get a result against Gary or Simon Whitlock I think it will elevate me to the next level which I’m aiming for.

“I’ve got a chance and I have to try to take it.”
