STEWART HALL has vowed to bring back the glory days to Scotland’s oldest women’s football club.

Kilmarnock Ladies were one of the most successful teams in the country before they dropped down the divisions.

And manager Hall is now determined to guide them back to the top after taking the first step by winning promotion to SWPL2.

He said: “We thought we were more than capable of winning the league and getting promotion back into the Premier League and it’s been a fantastic year.

“I think winning 19 out of 20 league games speaks for itself. I’m extremely proud of what the girls have achieved.

“Everyone has played their part in getting the club back playing Premier League football and plans are already under way for next season.

“Our next target is to make sure we remain a Premier League club next year, with the overall goal being to get ourselves into the top division sooner rather than later.”

Kilmarnock Ladies began life as Stewarton Thistle in 1961 and went on to win every major domestic trophy, as well as representing Scotland in the UEFA Women’s Cup.

Hall added: “We’ve been out of the Premier League since 2007 so everyone at the club is glad we’re back.

“At one point it looked like Kilmarnock Ladies were actually going to fold and cease to exist after dropping out of the Premier League.

“Our chairman Davie Howie and the current committee stepped in to revive the club. It’s been a lot of hard work to make the club stable and take the s m a l l steps back to where we are now.

“We want even more and we want to be an even bigger club. Davie’s dream is for us to have Champions League football one day. He wants us to get back to the top and be one of the best clubs in Scotland again.

“We’re just glad to be going in the right direction again.”
