May’s ministers are fool’s parade

THERESA May’s pathetic excuse for a government has been rocked by two resignations in a week.

If Boris Johnson and Michael Gove had even a modicum of decency, they would double that tally by quitting too.

The Brexit bozos are two of the most hopeless individuals to ever hold high office in this country.

Johnson is a notorious oaf whose lack of morality is trumped only by his own selfregard. His appalling behaviour in the case of Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe is no surprise.

But Gove should be completely ashamed at his willingness to sacrifice a young mother’s freedom to save the skin of his Brexit buddy.

Her husband Richard insists Nazanin, who has dual British-Iranian nationality, was in Iran to see her family. That should be good enough for Gove in the face of trumped-up charges from the Tehran regime. Instead, he said he didn’t know why she was there.

The ongoing saga is another nightmare episode for May, who must rank as the most haphazard and accident-prone PM in history.

While all this is going on, her closest ally in politics – First Secretary of State Damian Green – is at the centre of an investigation into porn and sexual harassment claims.

And don’t forget Chancellor Philip Hammond still has to deliver a Budget before the month is out.

It’s amazing only 40 Tory backbenchers are said to be willing to call for May to go. The only thing stopping the rest must be the fear of Jeremy Corbyn becoming prime minister.

But even if it doesn’t lead to a change at 10 Downing Street, Tories fighting like ferrets in a sack is sure to wreck Britain’s chances of getting a decent Brexit deal. Why should EU leaders respect May when absolutely nobody else does?
