TAYLOR WANTS BRITISH BELT

-

From Back Page kingpin Terence Crawford is moving up to welterweight and Taylor is determined to be at the top of the new 140lb world order. A shot at European champ Anthony Yigit is in the pipeline for February but the Scot is also eyeing Jack Catterall’s British title. He said: “I’m confident in my own ability that I’m going to win a world title. “I’ll have a few weeks off and I’d like to go for a European title first then see what’s happening. I’d love to fight for the Lonsdale belt – it’s one of the most prestigious belts in the world. I’d love to get my hands on that eventually but I’ll leave it to Barry McGuigan and what he thinks is the best route.”

Manager McGuigan believes the British title would be a “step back” with a world showdown – potentially with Sergey Lipinets – targeted before the end of 2018.

The legend said: “Why would you take a step back when you are so close to making something happen at the world level?”
