PRIZED plumber Cameron Menzies produced the match of his life to sink Simon Whitlock last night.

The awesome Ayrshire qualifier was overcome with joy after a stunning success over the Australian which propelled his charge towards the quarter-finals of the bwin Grand Slam.

Muirkirk’s Menzies had to take an unpaid week off work to compete and went to Wolverhampton just hoping to avoid a tanking.

Instead he whipped Whitlock 5-2 and said the experience will live with him until the day he dies.

Victory over Berry van Peer tonight will clinch a last-eight spot and Menzies said: “I’ll take this to my grave. I came here hoping not to get grannied. But I’m living the dream, it’s insane.

“Just being in the Players Lounge, seeing all the top guys. I’m just happy being in their company.

“I’m very expressive on stage but that’s just me, it’s just nerves. I’ll never change. No one knew who I was or gave me a chance, now my Twitter and Facebook have gone mad. It’s totally nuts.”

Gary Anderson is the first man into the quarters after an emotional 5-1 win over van Peer. The Dutch kid struggles with dartitis and was close to tears as he struggled to throw.

Van Peer won the hearts of the crowd who began chanting his name and Anderson also offered support and encouragement.

The Scot said: “It was the toughest match of my career. I feel for the boy. But he can come through this.”

Peter Wright got his title bid back on track with a comfortable 5-0 win over young Aussie Corey Cadby.

He said: “It’s a relief. Playing Corey is always hard but he was a bit subdued and I wasn’t expecting that. I expected a closer game.”

Ross Montgomery completed a memorable day for the Scots as the East Kilbride ace mauled Joe Murnan 5-3
