Falkirkin promise to act on fan songs

FALKIRK chair Margaret Lang last night vowed to act after some fans shamed their club in Inverness.

A section of the small Bairns support were heard to sing “F*** the SFA” and “Dean Shiels has only got one eye” during both halves of Saturday’s 1-0 Irn-Bru Cup quarter-final defeat.

Last week Falkirk striker Kevin O’Hara was given an eight-match ban by an SFA tribunal after taunting Dunfermline’s Shiels over his sight impediment during their third-round tie.

Saturday’s chants were audible on BBC Alba, which televised the clash, with Falkirk swiftly condemning those responsible that night.

Lang admits she hasn’t yet discussed the prospect of dishing out life bans to the culprits as the club are still trying to gather all the facts.

But she is adamant the board will not shirk their responsibilities and the matter will be discussed fully at their next meeting with fans’ representatives.

Lang said: “Falkirk cannot and will not condone this sort of behaviour.

“It is not a true or accurate reflection of Falkirk’s values as a club.

“I attended the Inverness game and was only made aware of the nature of some of the supporters’ songs on Saturday night.

“Falkirk regularly meet up with fans’ representatives and we will need to discuss this matter moving forward. It is clearly an issue that has to be addressed.

“However we are still in the process of gathering all the information and facts as to what actually happened in Inverness at the weekend.

“The possibility of handing out life bans to those supporters responsible hasn’t even entered my thinking and nothing like that has been discussed yet.”

Strict liability rules mean it’s highly unlikely the Bairns will face an SFA sanction.
