Family fears for activist held in India

-

THE brother of a Scots activist arrested in India for “online influence” has told of his concerns for his safety.

Jagtar Singh Johal was taken from a street in the Punjab region by police on November 4. His brother Gurpreet Singh Johal said the family have had no access to him since.

They have now raised concerns about Jagtar’s “welfare and safety” with the British High Commission.

Jagtar, from Dumbarton, had just got married in India.

Gurpreet said an arrest warrant had been issued for his brother last year but Jagtar had not been in India then.

Martin Docherty-Hughes, the SNP MP for West Dunbartonshire, is supporting the family.

He said he was “deeply concerned about the circumstances of Jagtar Singh Johal’s arrest and imprisonment in India”.
