Johnson apology for jail mum gaffe
BORIS Johnson has finally apologised to the family of a British mum after the gaffe that could add another five years to her time in an Iranian jail.
Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe was arrested last year on a visit to her parents in Iran and was handed a five-year sentence on allegations of spying and attempting to topple the Iranian regime.
After Johnson last week claimed she had gone to the country to train journalists, she was threatened with an extension to her jail term.
Her husband Richard says she is on the verge of a nervous breakdown.
Under pressure from MPs in the Commons yesterday, Foreign Secretary Johnson said: “I do apologise and of course I retract any suggestion that she was there in a professional capacity.”
