A TALENTED schoolgirl actress took the famous stage advice to “break a leg” a little too literally.

Megan Grant starred as Maleficent in a theatre production in a full leg cast, after busting her knee while celebrating Halloween.

The 14-year-old decided that the show must go on and bravely starred in the run of performances at the Paisley Art Centre.

Megan, from Renfrew, has been performing with the group Oakshaw Trinity Theatre for the last five years.

And she said that without the help of her fellow actors, she would have struggled to overcome her setback.

She said: “The first night I was quite nervous but the second night was much better and it felt really good.

“All the cast were supporting each other and it was great.”

Her proud mum Stacie explained how the Renfrew High pupil had feared she would miss the production.

She said: “Megan was out with her friends

on Halloween when some boys chased her with eggs and rocks and she fell and hit her knee on the kerb.

“The next day, her knee was really swollen and it was a funny colour and I took her to the hospital.

“They X-rayed her knee and found it was broken.

“The first thing she asked the doctor was if she could still be in the show.

“They said probably not and she just burst out crying.”

The teen was put in a full hip-to-ankle leg cast, which seemed to put paid to her chances of appearing on stage. But Megan refused to take no for an answer.

Stacie added: “The show’s director Jean Bett said we could make it work.

“Megan has a really big solo number called I Am What I Am in the middle of the show which she was worried about.

“And her confidence took a bit of a dent after the injury – but she has been great.

“Megan kept saying, ‘The show must go on.’

“The rest of the cast and crew have been amazing.”
